INTRODUCTION
Papers read at the Seminar are published in the Proceedings of the Seminar for Arabian Studies in time for the Seminar of the following year. The Proceedings therefore contains new research on Arabia and reports of new discoveries in the Peninsula in a wide range of disciplines.
The Proceedings of the Seminar for Arabian Studies is edited by an Editorial Board formed from members of the Steering Committee of the Seminar, under Dr St John Simpson, Dr Rob Carter and Dr Lloyd Weeks, the Editors-in-chief. EARLY SEMINARS
The Seminar for Arabian Studies
In the early part of 1968 an informal study-group was set up at the suggestion of John Dayton to promote the cause of archaeological research in the Arabian Peninsula. After an initial meeting the group formed itself into a society, with John Dayton as its Secretary and held its first meeting in October 1968 when Peter Parr gave a lecture on the Preliminary Survey in the north-west Hejaz which he had undertaken earlier in the year with Gerald Lankester Harding and John Dayton.
