Freddie in full academic dress at a Garden Party in the gardens of St John's College after the Encaenia ceremony at Oxford University. Freddie was the Dean of Degrees at St John's for twenty-six years during which time he became a familiar figure at Degree Ceremonies in the Sheldonian Theatre. He was much appreciated by a succession of the University's Public Orators, who have to make speeches in Latin in praise of those presented for honorary degrees, since Freddie was one of the few present who understood and appreciated the elegant classical allusions and laughed loudly at the jokes which it is customary to include in such orations.
