Freddie with the other Trustees of the 'Beeston House Charity' In 1922, Freddie's great-aunt had established a Trust in memory of her husband 'for the provision of recreational facilities for members of the Winchester City Police Force' A house was purchased for the purpose, with recreation rooms on the first floor and a bowling green in the garden. Freddie's father, Herbert Arthur Beeston, was its Chairman from 1922 until his death in 1941. On his father's death, Freddie became a Trustee, and, in 1955, Chairman just as 'Beeston House' moved to a new purpose-built property (see the cutting). He served as Chairman for forty years, until his death in 1995, during which time developments in the organisation of the police service necessitated further changes in the Trust. The Charity now provides, furnishes, and equips 'The Beeston Room' for recreation in the Police Headquarters in North Walls, Winchester. Previous - Next © Seminar for Arabian Studies 2006.
